B. glabrata egg masses contain multiple embryos, each in its individual egg chamber. B. glabrata adults will lay eggs on substrates in their environment, such as rocks, and also on each other. In order to isolate and study the embryos, we place pieces of Styrofoam in the tanks with adults and then when  eggs are observed we remove the Styrofoam with the egg mass and age it until the desired stage of development.

B. glabrata are direct developing in that individual embryos complete trochophore and veliger developmental stages inside of the egg capsule. Juveniles hatch approximately 7 days after laying.
